Doodles Everywhere...

With the hustle and bustle of daily life, it is hard to find the time to do the things you love. I am sure a lot of you would agree with me on that!...For me, one of these things is drawing. To draw, I like to have my ideal 'creative scenario'...and put myself in the head-space to 'make art'. I want to be relaxed, as well as have the right tools in front of me etc. But, to 'draw' doesn't necessarily mean making a big production out of it or dedicating an entire room in your house for studio-work. Everyday doodles can be just as valuable as a masterpiece you slaved over for weeks. 

 By carrying simple tools around in my purse (i.e pens, pencils, erasers) I always have the basic necessities to make art (art is subjective, after all). As for your 'canvas', you can pretty much use anything! ...in fact, it makes for more interesting art. Use a printed napkin from a restaurant, a pastry bag, cardboard or any other little beautiful papers you find throughout your day, keep your eyes open for these things! (some may say this is hoarding- haha) ...But now you have everything you need to doodle your heart out. Simple sketches and doodles made throughout your day can just be thrown into your purse, and you can do more with it when you do have more time on your hands. 

Doodle while you have your morning coffee, while you wait for the bus, while you are chatting on the phone, during commercial breaks, or even if you don't want to pay attention at work/school. (heck, Im not condoning it Buuuuuut... research has shown that some people can actually listen better while doodling).

Use your little napkin doodle as a thumbnail for a larger abstract painting that is %100 original. Or take your doodle and stick it into your sketchbook. Eventually if you collect enough doodles and little artsy scribbles you can have a nice multi-media art journal that is simple and interesting. 

so go ahead and doodle ;)

This was a poster I did for a pro-eco organization that was doing a campaign to raise awareness about the destruction of habitat and the effects of tourism on our environment. It is done by hand, mixed media collage and pencil, sharpie.

     So, this is a poster created for my typography class. We were supposed to pick a font that we liked/found interesting and then create a poster for it, which conceptually illustrates the font and what it's all about. So i picked baskerville, I chose to emphasize the uppercase Q and the lowercase g becuse those are the two most memorable letterforms in the typeface. The gears are symbolic of how the font is a 'transitional' font which was made at the beginning of the industrial revolution, and they are supposed to have that 'industrial' feel, as well as show how the letterforms work together... like gears. 

I still have some editing to do, in the title and subtitle spacing... I can't decide if its too close to the edge or not.

fragments of black and white.

This is something Im working on in one of my classes, we are learning how to use a diagonal grid using only black and white images and symbols. this is a typical exercise for learning how to do magazine layouts etc.  I tried to stick with somewhat of a theme, but i don't know

dreams, realities in waiting.

So, I haven't posted any of my own art or photography (besides little snapshots) in a long time... So i thought i would upload some photos i have been taking to show that i haven't done absolutely nothing all summer. I do go to an art school...yeeesh. haha. I have been experimenting with really low-grade quality cameras because i kinda like the raw effects it brings out like disposables, or webcams for example. They are much more gritty. (plus i have been kinda living out of a backpack all summer and there is not a lot of room for big fancy cameras) Sometimes you just gotta make do with what you've got.

& yes thats me, and yes that is vintage floral wallpaper. I was at my dads 100 year(ish) old farmhouse. and yes that is a flesh toned bra. Intentionally unsexy, unprovocative. haha

so there's this boy... & he makes me smile :)

And his name is Dallas Clayton. ahahaha...

(im just kidddinggg don't have a crush on him... just his poems!)

so i have decided to go vintage shopping at one of my favorite places in the city; Kensington market, seeing as i have to save money.

i will be looking for: 

a little brown, leather sachet  purse with a shoulder strap (or a chain)

something floral

something lace

maybe some little boots. 

a boyfriend blazer (although i doubt i will be able to find any nice ones 

vintage...there all so huge!)

anything else?? 

art mess.

i must say, that in the making of art... my MESS is an art piece in and of itself. 

this is what has accumulated in my room for the last two weeks as

 mid term assignments grow closer and closer.

and this picture doesn't even begin to show you my 2 giant piles of dirty laundry... yikes.

thank goodness i only have one more class until reading week!!

a little thing i made...

an assignment i did today... to make a cd cover. i had to take a figure drawing done in class, and convey the feeling, idea & emotion of a song of my choice, abstract it and incorporate a musical instrument that plays in the song. 

& i just realized now that i made a huge mistake (and already handed it in... oops): That song by feist has no piano in it. hahahaha, originally i was going to do that song, but i didn't know what instrument to do, so i changed it to Regina Spektor- Samson..... but clearly, i wrote the wrong song title. 

i guess thats what i get for leaving my homework until 2 hours before its due. 

will i ever learn?
