Spring Clothing Haul. *OLD* (reposted from last year)

*click on the pictures above for a closer look ;)

1. Blue Wilfred Silk spaghetti strap, Aritzia $55 ... not worth it. At value village they have a million of these, all real silk, very 90's. All for less than 10$. If I could to go back in time I would not buy this. It looks good on, because of the intense colour... but thats about it. Me and Leslie found a beautiful black one and a lilac one at Value Village just days afterwards...that looked exactly the same. no joke. & not only that but the price you'll have to pay for dry cleaning when a little spot gets on the 55$ one, it is definitely NOT worth the purchase. haha, darn... Aritzia you win again.

2. Slate Grey/white Graphic tank top $20-$25 ...worth it. For this cotton, relaxed style tank be sure to get a size up. baggy is better when it comes to this style. Looks good with leggings & a pair of aviators. Easy to wash. not too badly priced.

3. Backless tulip shaped Floral top, Costa Blanca $20 ... Definitely worth it! This top is beautiful. Costa Blanca is SO hit or miss. im not a huge fan of it, but on the occasion that I do find something there that I like, I love it. and usually wear it mulitiple times a week. havent been able to so that yet with this one, because its too scandalous with the open back, but when summer comes... oh baby. Looks good with a high waisted pair of shorts if your a little modest and want to cover up your back a little bit more, and low rise jeans and heels for a sexier look. Its great because it sits just perfectly to cover your bra!... I love this one. The picture doesn't even do it justice.

4. Turquoise cropped spaghetti strap with scalloped and embellished hem, Forever 21 $17 ... Worth it. colour is very trendy right now, the minty-tourqouise, and its just a fun, pretty, girly top that looks more expensive then it actually was because of the beading and the material.

5. Pleated floral spaghetti strap, Forever 21 $10 ...Worth it. Another score from Forever 21. yesssssss.

6. Purple Lace t-shirt, Bluenotes $11 ...WORTH IT. This is a total knockoff of what aritzia offers, but for a fraction of the price, and a better fit. I tried on the tops in aritzia and almost bought one, but it looked way too boxy on me, and made everyone who tried it on look like they have wide shoulders. this one from bluenotes has the exact same look, and feel but its cut is much more girly and feminine.

7. Red Button-up blouse, H&M $14 ...Worth it. dress it up or dress it down, the colour is beautiful and its so versatile and easy. you can even wear it open as a spring cover up over a tank top underneath.

8. Sepia toned floral lace top, Babaton, Aritzia $90 ...mmm....i guess its worth it. Because i have had it for SO long, and i always get compliments on it. But because the material is so delicate you need to keep paying for upkeep, with drycleaning and whatnot so it is kind of high maintenance. But I would still say its worth it because I was in love with it at the time. & still wear it often.

9. Cream coloured Tie-front blouse $10 ...worth it. easy peasy.

10. Cream coloured Boyfriend boyfriend style Blazer, Thrifted $4 ...worth it. i was going to buy a new one because they were so tendy it felt like everyone had one but me, but they range anywhere from 60-250$ and up! ...so i looked at VV and I found this one. I really like it :)..and 4$?? please. thats less than a coffee these days.

11. Cream cropped wilfred top, Aritzia $35... worth it! Goes with everything. especially a ripped pair of jeans.

12. Oatmeal coloured knitted cardigan with cutout details on front, Thrifted $3 easiest spring cardigan. looks good over the sepia-toned babaton top, that way your mixing completely cheap, with a more high end item. it adds interest to the outfit.

13. Denim button up, American Eagle $35 ... worth it.

14. Boyfriend Style dress shirt, American Eagle $50 ...not worth it, barely ever wear it because 'the boyfriend look' is aka 'I am drowning in it.'

15. 'Im dating the quarterback' Jacket (haha), Bluenotes $20....not worth it. Everyone has the exact same jacket as me. boring.

10. Magazine: ELLE canada February 2011

February is the most depressing month of the year (its proven). SO, I have kept my mind distracted from the -20 degree temperatures by focusing on spring and how quickly these last few weeks have flown by. I made a little photo collage of my favourite things right now (think, bright and cheery), Inspired a lot by Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2011.

The magazine spread that appears in my photos above, and inspired me for the look was from ELLE Canada's trend report entitled 'Spring Awakening' (pg. 99). It says "Luxe Gypsies, boho hippies and punky gals put on a brilliant show... Bring on the highlighter hues, disco purples and breezy whites...It's sheer madness!" ...And I'm loving it.

room to be creative

When I grow up (haha)... I will definitely have an entire room in my home dedicated to making crafts.

DIY before/after

1. So after I soaked the wallpaper in hot water, then peeled it off slowly.... (caution: do not get excited it DOES NOT come off in one easy piece) you must go around and soak the wall again because you will notice that there are two layers to the wallpaper, the design and the brown paper backing. Although if you have the newer kinds of wallpaper you shouldn't have to do any of this...did you know they have 'peel and stick' nowadays?  so cool.

2. After you soak for the second time the backing will be more easily removed with a scraping tool.

3. After that you want to go around the areas with an abrasive spongepad and remove any tiny little bits left over.

4. Then the first coat of paint, corners and edges first with a small dense-bristled brush. Then fill in the walls with a roller. repeat.

I must say that I am so happy with it, the amount of natural light that bounces around in there now is so pretty. All I have to do now is hang up all my art, frames and mirrors, find a new duvet cover, a night table (currently my bedside lamp is resting on a pile of hardshell suitcases) and...thats it. I think.

The good thing about white is I can change the mood/tone of my room by switching up the colours of the other stuff thats in it (the art, bedspread, rugs etc.) and it is not as labour intensive & you can do it way more often.

If I HAD to choose another colour (say, white didn't exist...haha)... my second choice would have been a muted yellow. yup, yellow. Think, Serena Vander-Woodsen  via Gossip girl. (below) Im pretty sure these pictures are older, I think in the new season her room is a little bit different but you get the idea.

Thursday

live by the sun, love by the moon

YAY for freckles.
the moon kinda looks like it may have freckles too...

by the way, Im done painting... 2 painstaking days, 2 full coats later, 2 showers to try and get the paint off and TOO many coffees and one very sore wrist later.

couldn't be more pleased.
pics to be posted soon!

Sunday

white.

For the new year, me and my sister are painting our rooms. We went to Benjamin Moore with no specific colours in mind. With the beautiful array of shades to choose from the options were endless. Leslie decided to go with a creamy baby pink "pink voille". Me being a design student, most would think I would walk away with some loud, extravagant hue. But! oh contraire!... I ended up walking away with a paint chip with a hue entitled "Simply White".  Some would argue that the 'starkness' of white will turn my room into a dentists office. But I disagree, It's...

symbolic. deep. inspiring.

no?

new year. blank slate. new beginnings. WHITE.

a blank canvas.

its light, and airy.

will I regret this decision?.....

I think not.

lights & stars

more (& more) holiday posts! ..yay.
Me and my roommates have taken our small amounts of spare time to turn our apartment into winter wonderland. Garlands, wreaths, bows, glitter, snowflakes etc. We stayed up the other night obsessively cutting out the perfect little white snowflakes to string around the apartment, we ended up hanging them in the living room window... so it looks like its always snowing! :) You can see Charlie hopping around in the bottom corner of the last photo... cuutiee pie.

ALSO!, I have got my name mentioned on a blog of caliber for the first time! (although not for my blogging talents) but for a giveaway that I won, HURRAY!
